Small leaf with handwritten note/letter from minor Victorian poet, Adelaide Procter to a Mr[s]. Atkinson requesting donations for a charity raffle
by Adelaide Anne Procter (1825-1864)
England, ca 1850. Letter. Very good. 2pp., 3" x 4" on chain lined paper, possibly cut or trimmed. "I am a very bad beggar and don't have the proper phrases - I think I could put on the whining tone if I saw you but that does not count in a note. so I proceed without circumlocution to say we are making a raffle for a table the performance of Edith and myself and wh. is (I mention this in confidence) extremely ugly. WIll you put in? The tickets are one shilling a piece. The object is - but perhaps if I told you what it was - your conscience might prevent your coming - and therefore I will not say that it is for one of our churches. Yours very sincerely, Adelaide Procter" (Inventory #: 1322)
