The complete set of 12 color plates tipped in on thick cardboard as issued, with the 16 page cord bound booklet, printed in black and red by Eyre & Spottiswoode. Each color plate is protected with a glassine sheet, with a quatrain printed on the glassine.Abanindranath Tagore (1871 - 1951) was one of the most prominent artists of the Bengal school of painting, and the principal artist and creator of "Indian Society of Oriental Art". He was a supporter of the Indian independence movement and worked to modernize Moghul and Rajput traditions in response to the growing influence of Western art under the British Raj.In the original quarter blue cloth fold over portfolio with paper title label at front cover, and with cloth ties, now missing; a bit rubbed at extremities. Small folio, 10 x 12 1/2". The booklet with a bit of offsetting to the cover only. The plates in very good condition, with a bit of toning only along the left and right edges of the mounting boards.
