Holmes Sturdivant on the front pastedown and his penciled notes, dated 2-8-33, on the rear endpapers. Moderate rubbing to extremities, text clean and binding sound. No dust jacket. Sturdivant was Pauling's first graudate student and ultimately his life-long friend. He was hired by Pauling as his assistant in the late 1920s, recieved his PhD from Caltech in 1930, and remained on Pauling's research team, focussing on x-ray crystallography, for many years. He was co-author on a number of Pauling's publications.
