[nice clean book, minor shelfwear only; jacket has a couple of tiny tears at front spine corners, slight fading to spine, unobtrusive closed tear at top of front panel]. Comic novel about a small-time Italian restaurateur whose livelihood is threatened by the opening of a chain restaurant next door to his little trattoria. He concocts a scheme to fight back against the intruder, together with "a motley set of accomplices, including an aging bookseller with an archaeological bent, an adventurous signora with a feeling for outer space, a mute giant, a scheming lover, a beautiful maiden, and the spirit of an ancient Etruscan king." (The setting for the action is the Trastevere neighborhood of Rome, specifically on the (possibly fictional?) Street of the Scriveners.) The book was adapted for the Broadway musical "Bravo Giovanni," which ran for 76 performances in 1962 and earned three Tony Award nominations. . (Inventory #: 22534)
