Augustin-Eugène Scribe (1791-1861) prolific dramatist and librettist, writing the young composer Xavier Boisselot concerning a proposed commission for what would become Boisselot's first (and most enduring work) Ne touchez pas à la reine , answering several points, reading (in part): "1º the price of six thousand francs that M. your father offers for the score seems to me to be a very attractive offer that one must hasten to accept"; dissussing terms of the payment; "3º even though my health is still very poor, I will read the draft ... 4º as to the timing of the performance, no one in the world, not even the director can set the date, this will depend upon the work in the theater, the health of the actors or chanteuses who will play in your piece, and above all the roles they will create in the three-act works on which the administration counts ..."
