Channing was a transcendendalist and presided over The Religious Union of Associationists in Boston, a socialist group which included many members of the Brook Farm commune.
Brooks (1813 - 1883) was a well known American translator of German works, as mentioned here, a poet himself, Transcendentalist and a Unitarian pastor in Newport.
