New York: Harrison Smith and Robert Haas. Very Good+ in Very Good dj. 1935. First Edition. Hardcover. NOISBN . [a good sound copy (which would appear to have never been read), showing the usual rubbing to the gilt on the spine, but otherwise with just the most minimal handling wear, slight offsetting in the gutters; the jacket is edgeworn, with slight browning to the spine and rear panel, a tiny bit of paper loss at the spine extremities, a small ragged semi-circular tear at the bottom left corner of the front panel, and a small tear (at the bottom front fold) and associated diagonal crease at the bottom right corner of the front panel]. Faulkner's novel about barnstorming stunt pilots; basis for the Douglas Sirk film starring Rock Hudson, Robert Stack and Dorothy Malone. The correct first trade edition (stated "first printing, February, 1935"), in an unclipped and slightly worn (see condition notes) but still pleasing first-issue dust jacket ($2.50 printed price at bottom of front flap, full list of other Smith & Haas titles ("These Are Books to Own!") on rear panel). There are plenty of halfway-decent copies of "Pylon" in the marketplace, and plenty of them are over-priced; I'll let you, the great book-buying public, decide if this one is. (Actually, given the minimal amount of wear to the book itself, and its apparent unread condition, one could almost justify grading it Near Fine. If one wasn't me, I mean. After all, it does still have the typical rubbing to the spine gilt -- you know, on the part of the book you'll amost never see.) . (Inventory #: 22604)
