1943·Ausable Forks, NY
by KENT, Rockwell (1882 - 1971)
Ausable Forks, NY, 1943. unbound. 1 page, 10.5 x 8 inches, Ausable Forks, New York, May 31. 1943. Written to Arthur Price, fulfilling a commission for Sears, Roebuck, and Co., and negotiating the possible sale of a large collection of his early work, in part: "...I am very happy at your having liked my Statue of Liberty. I have attached my bill to the order which you sent me. I am keeping the Rockwellkentiana collection as bait for one Arthur Price. It is in two or three heavy cases, which I purposely have not opened, lest I might have to spoil them as bait by informing you that they were not worth acquiring. The owner has offered to swap the collection for a painting by me. I'd probably like to acquire it; but I think of you as having an option on it. But now let me threaten you: I am curious to see what is in the cases. I have paintings to give in exchange for it if I like it. If you don't come here and see it and, incidentally, visit us, by God, I'll open the cases and maybe make the deal that will make them mine! Come anytime you like." Natural folds; very good(+) condition. American painter, printmaker, writer, and illustrator, known for his crisp modernist style. (Inventory #: 272516)
