New York: Grosset & Dunlap. Very Good+ in Good dj. (c.1930, 1931). First Edition. Hardcover. [a good solid copy, a little wear at the extremities, fain foxing to fore-edge; jacket has several closed tears at top of front panel, a few tiny chips surrounding the top of the spine, edgewear and some creasing along bottom of rear panel]. A Grosset & Dunlap original (although it may have been serialized in some magazine first, as is suggested by the copyright dates), this "startling story of divorce and its mercenary aftermath" (which also manages to be "a colorful romance of modern life") is fronted by a typically gorgeous Mach-Tey jacket illustration. The author was alleged to have "made a close study of divorce and its many problems," and in the next couple of years she (or he?) turned out two more tomes -- "Runaway Wife" and "Someone to Love" -- which, if you think about it, kind of sound like a neat little trilogy, with an implied happy ending, no less. At any rate, these would appear to have been the author's only books, and all three are pretty scarce: an OCLC search turns up just five copies of "Alimony Queens," just two of them in American libraries. Shame on you, American librarians! . (Inventory #: 22162)
