First edition of Lewis's first book, preceded only by a portfolio of drawings for Timon of Athens. Approximately 200 copies printed, although Pound & Glover speculate that no more than fifty of the folders were produced. Morrow &Lafourcade A2. Pound & Glover A1. Boldly inscribed by the author using his most impressive, and aggressive, Vorticist signature at the top of the title-page: "With the author's kind regards P. Wyndham Lewis Dec. 1917". The Ideal Giant was published in November, while Lewis was on compassionate leave from the Western Front where he was a commissioned officer in the Royal Artillery. During his leave, he was re-assigned to a post as an Official War Artist 8vo, original cloth-backed pictorial boards and frontispiece with Vorticist design by the author. Tips of spine slightly rubbed, boards naturally discolored, otherwise a fine copy of one of the author's scarcest books. (Inventory #: 23170)
