Piney Woods, MS: The School, 1930. Printed handbill, 11 x 8 1/2 inches, illustrated from a photograph (4 x 3 inches) of Grace Morris Allen Jones (1876-1928, wife of Piney Woods School founder Laurence C. Jones), a fund raising letter from the school attempting to raise money for a building to house the departments Mrs. Jones "prized most highly" ("girls' industries … domestic science and laundry work, basket-making, rug-weaving, and textiles"), as a memorial to the recently deceased teacher. Text and portrait are enclosed within a bold black mourning border. "Grace Jones was deeply involved in women's issues and was particularly concerned about the welfare of children. [She] was also concerned about health and sanitation issues, particularly the number of tuberculosis cases among African-Americans in Mississippi" (Papers of G.M.A. Jones, U. of Iowa Libraries). Folded as for mailing, but very good. (Inventory #: 61632)
