John Bell, Scottish physician, was one of the founders of modern surgery of the vascular system (along with John Hunter, and Pierre-Joseph Desault).
The translator and Jean-Louis Eugene Estor, MD (1796-1856), was a professor of Anatomy and Surgery, member of the Societe Academique de Medecine de Marseille, and corresponding member of the Societe d'Emulation de Paris.
Provenance: Probably this volume belonged to: Mathias Mayor, MD (1775-1847), was a Swiss doctor, chief surgeon of the cantonal hospital of Lausanne. He studied at Thun, and his medical studies were done at universities of Zurich, Milan and Paris. He established his practice in Lausanne, becoming chief surgeon.
