ca. 1890 · No place [Yokohama]
by [Japan, Photography]. T. Enami & others (Studio).
No place [Yokohama?], T. Enami & others, no date (ca. 1890s). Oblong Folio (12.5" x 15.5"), contemporary pictorial black lacquered boards inlaid in relief with bone, containing fifty hand-colored albumen photographs measuring generally 7.75 " x 10" mounted recto and verso to 25 thick card leaves, with tissue guards interleaved. Forty-four of the images are titled in the negative.
Binding worn: spine perished, boards and front free endpapers detached (boards remarkably well preserved although lacking one small inlaid piece), most tissue guards creased and torn, mounts with slight wave and sporadic foxing/ soiling, 3 photos with minute losses at the edges, a few slightly faded or under exposed, most fresh and rich in tonal quality.
Although quite probably a composite album representing photos from different studios, certainly many of the images are from the Yokohama studio of T. Enami.
