London & New York: The Poetry Bookshop & Albert and Charles Boni, 1914. First Edition. Hardcover. Pencil signature on front endpaper; flaking and wear to spine with some loss, mostly along the front joint. Good. Green boards printed in black with the half-title page with Poetry Bookshop imprint at bottom; 63 pages. If one book were to be chosen as the starting point of modern American poetry, this slim first collection of the Imagist school, the literary movement formed by Ezra Pound that lasted from 1913-1917, might very well be it. It contains 10 poems by Richard Aldington and 7 by H. D., whose appearances precede their first books. Pound is represented by 6 poems, and James Joyce, William Carlos Williams, Ford Madox Hueffer, and Amy Lowell each have a poem included. Edited by Pound, though no credit is given, this book was part of the same impression as the literary periodical GLEBE for February 1914. Gallup B7. (Inventory #: 021685)
