EARLY TIMES IN TEXAS
1892 · Austin
by Duval, John C.
Austin, 1892. 135,[3],243-53pp. Printed self-wrappers, stapled. Some chipping, but a very good copy, considering the cheap paper used. Enclosed in a folding cloth case. The variant, without the appended "The Young Explorers," and with the list of the men in Fannin's command appearing as the appended pages. "A detailed account of Fannin's campaign, closing with the massacre. The author...maintains that Fannin surrendered his men as prisoners of war at Coleto. His escape from the Mexicans makes a marvelous story" - Raines. Howes does not note this variant issue of the sheets of the first edition, though Dobie mentions it in his bibliography of Duval. BASIC TEXAS BOOKS 51. HOWES D603. RAINES, p.74. RADER 1248. GRAFF 1188. DOBIE, DUVAL, p.39. (Inventory #: WRCAM1013)
