Born in Milwaukee, Forman studied at the Layton School of Art and then the University of Wisconsin from where he graduated with a degree in Oriental Philosophy. He drew on both of these in his eminent and wide-ranging career as a journalist, photographer and explorer, most of which he spent in the Far East. Indeed, he was considered a "modern Marco Polo." His time in China included interviewing Mao Zedong. His papers, diaries and fify thousand photographs were donated to the University of Wisconsin. (Inventory #: 303752)
