Ver y Estimar: Cuadernos de Critica Artistica, Volumen II, Numeros 7 y 8
Softcover
1948 · Buenos Aires
by Brest, Jorge Romero (Editor)
Buenos Aires: Bartolome U. Chiesino (Printer), 1948. Softcover. Very good in general but with age toning to edges of some pages, depending upon type of paper used. Covers VG with just a bit of wear to lower edge at spine and corners. A very nice copy!. Charcoal/grey-illus. wraps with French flaps. 126 + [22] pp.; 54 bw illus., 3 bw xilographs, 8 bw illus. tipped in, and 1 color plate (Gauguin) laid in. Text in Spanish. The primary focus of this issue is an homage to Gauguin on the centenary of his birth. With a poem by Rafarl Alberti, written specifically for this issue, a main essay by Jorge Romero Brest, the laid in color plate of Paysage de Bretagne (1899), and 4 additional Gauguin presentations - Gauguin: coincidencias (Clara Diament, Isolina Grossi, Lia Carrea, Blanca Stabile, Damian Carlos Bayon); an essay by Rodolfo Bruhl, Paul Gauguin y el expresionismo (with the 3 xilographs); Paul Gauguin en Buenos Aires by Raquel Edelman, and a bibliography of Gauguin. Quite the Gauguin issue!! Also with several other sections with critical articles by the same authors on contemporary Belgian art, the Crespo Collection, Luis Seoane, Juan Batlee Planas, Jorge Larco, and more. Also included are the 22 pp. of various advertisements by businesses in Buenos Aires. I cannot find identification of the cover art but believe it must be a Gauguin xilograph. A wonderful volume, full of excellent information on Gauguin and all sorts of other unique topics. (Inventory #: 155432)
