Dynamo-Electricity : Its Generation, Application, Transmission, Storage and Measurement
by Prescott, George B.
New York: D. Appleton and Company, 1894. Later printing. Cloth. Very Good. Later printing. xii, -867 pages. Publisher's pebbled brown cloth. Yellow glossy endpapers starting to split near the hinge (reinforced with archival document repair tissue). Upper corners bumped. Rear cover and one spot on spine with very light dampstaining that appears to have been quickly wiped off with little real impact other than to the surface finish of the cloth. A fundamentally sound copy of a book most often found badly beaten up. Cloth. With 545 illustrations. Provides an interesting "state of the art" related to lighting in particular. Contents include sections on "Production of the Electric Light", "Progress in Electric Lighting", "The Edison Incandescent Electric Light", The Maxim, Swan, Bernstein, and Lane-Fox Incandescent Electric Lights", lighting at the International Exposition of Electricity in Paris 1881, etc. Later chapters deal with regulators, dynamos, power transmission and measurement of electric power. At this time lighting and electrical distribution were in their infancy. Incandescent systems were vying for supremacy. An excellent look into the state of the art at the time. While the 1884 first edition is fairly common, this 1894 printing is less so.
