by Herz, Martin F.
School of Foreign Service, Georgetown University, 1981. First edition. Hardcover. Very Good/Very Good. Foreword by Peter F. Krogh. Washington, D.C. First edition. The author was Ambassador to Bulgaria from 1974 to 1977. His diary notes - witty, sarcastic, often acidulous - are good reading and illuminating about the day-to-day problems in a small post within the Soviet bloc. Presentation copy, inscribed by Herz to U.S. Ambassador Philip C. Habib on the front flyleaf, with a typed letter signed (TLS) from Herz to Habib laid in. A renowned career diplomat, Habib (1920-92) was an authority on Southeast Asia, President Ronald Reagan's personal representative to the Middle East, and a special envoy to some of the world's most dangerous flash points. In 1982, Habib was awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom, the nation's highest civilian honor. Blue buckram binding, with silver stamping. The dust jacket is a trifle edgeworn, with some prominent sunning along the spine; otherwise a very good copy. Inscribed by Author.
