The long biographical sketch in the Dictionary of National Biography shows that his own personal library was so vast it took four full days at auction to dispose of it all to the eager collectors. All nine plates are present and this is the subscriber's edition. Original calf with embellishments on spine light wear along outer joints and a 3/4" x 1/2" chip at top of spine. This copy belonged to John Deakin Heaton, M.D. and has his book plate with coat of arms.. First Edition. Full Leather. Very Good. Elephant Folio - over 15" - 23" tall.
