Fourteenth report has geology and paleontology reports bound as one. Both volumes illustrated throughout with many full page plates. ALS letter dated May 1, 1897 attached to title page. Letter is addressed to Mr. Schuchert (whose names adorns the bookplates). Letter is from John M. Clarke. Clarke bemoans that New York State Geologist, James Hall, does not give him credit for the paleontology research he undertook concerning Brachiopods. Clarke succeeded Hall as New York State Geologist. Charles Schuchert was also a noted paleontologist who served for many years on Yale University's staff.
