His first venture in the field of waterproof clothing was gaitors. He moved onto other forms of clothing and became a very real competitor to the eponymous Macintosh (now spelt Mackintosh) because his method of proofing did not smell .Frankenberg became a very successful manufacturer and philanthropist, he was an alderman and later, Mayor of Salford and was active in many local charities.
