Four lithographed plates [by John Absolon] printed in black and ochre. A fine fresh copy in the original blind-stamped red cloth, spine gilt; somewhat unevenly faded. A reissue of the Absolon plates with retitled and reset text of Myrtle’s A Story Book of the Seasons: Summer, originally published by Cundall in 1846. The stories and plates are charming, with an especially nice one about children rescuing a baby bird. McLean, Joseph Cundall, p. 57 notes the 1846 edition and this one; the copy he saw had the plates hand-colored. Both editions are rare: OCLC appears not to list the original version and locates only a copy in Germany of this edition, to which COPAC adds another copy at Liverpool.
