Book Description

0. YORK, Alvin C. SERGEANT YORK: His Own Life Story And War Diary. Garden City, NY: Doubleday, Doran, 1928. 8vo., orange cloth, stamped in blue. First Edition. Signed by Alvin C. York on the front endpaper. With his battalion and division units written in another hand beneath the signature (tape residue marks beneath the units where something was once attached). Basis for the 1941 movie, starring Gary Cooper, Joan Leslie and Walter Brennan. Cooper won an Academy Award for his portrayal of Sgt. York and the film also received nine additional nominations, including one for Best Picture. York's signature in this copy is a little smudging, caused by the book being closed quickly after the ink was applied- little ink offsetting on opposite page). Good (little wear & soil). Enclosed in a custom- designed, leather and cloth clam-shell box, with both the spine and front cover depicting sergeant stripes- all done in leather. Striking!.
