Book Description

(TRAVEL POSTER) Vers L’Europe. L’Artzot Europa [text in Hebrew]. (Travel to Europe). Haif, Chypre, Venisee, Marseille. Cie Francaise De Navigation. Printed in France: SMAP Marseille, (circa 1955). Image measures 39 inches x 24 1/2 inches. Professionally linen-backed. In green, various shades of blue, white, red, and gray. Fine condition. This very uncommon travel poster, in French and Hebrew, was evidently a cooperative effort by French and Israeli tourist bureaus to promote tourism between the two countries. A huge cruise ship is seen making its way through the waves in the shape of Israeli and French flags. French-Israeli relations reached its friendly peak with the Sinai Campaign in 1956, during which France was Israel’s largest supplier of arms. There also developed a whole network of cooperation in the world of technology and science. Travel and cultural cooperation between the two countries is symbolized by the colorful and peaceful parting of the seas as seen in this attractive travel poster, most worthy of framing.
