Book Description

London: Fisher, Son, and Co., 1843 [iv], 215, [1], 8pp., sm. 8vo. With a publishers’ catalogue at end, some contemporary pencilled notes throughout, especially at the end where there are calculations of the numbers of drunkards that die “every year, every month” etc. An excellent copy in the original blind-stamped purple cloth, spine gilt; faded (as usual), missing the front free endpaper. First edition of this strong argument for the temperance movement, by an enormously popular author of advice manuals for women, the most popular of which is named in the title of this book. Two copies (NYPL and Lutheran Theological) in OCLC.
