These two volumes give a fascinating account of the journeys of Lady Charlotte Schreiber in her indefatigable search for ceramics and other objects for over 15 years in the late 19th Century. The English portion of her collection, consisting of 2,000 pieces, was presented to the South Kensington Museum (now the Victoria and Albert) where it is known as the "Schreiber Collection." Lady Charlotte was a remarkable woman. She was first married to Sir John Guest, who owned the steel works at Dowlais in S. Wales, and when he died she continued to run the business. She then married her son's young tutor, Charles Schreiber, and it was with him that she traveled the continent collecting..
