(1867-1955). Considered the father of American Gothic architecture, he was born and raised in Northern Ireland. In Boston, he apprenticed to architect Edmund Wheelwright. He and Timothy Walsh formed Maginnis and Walsh, one of the leading architectural firms of the 20th Century. They won the bid to build the new Boston College campus in 1909 and their work was deemed "the most beautiful campus in America" by The American Architect magazine. They went on to design over twenty-five more colleges and universities. From 1937 to 1939, Maginnis was the President of the American Institute of Architects. ADS. 1pg. 5" x 8". No date [circa 1890s]. Boston, MA. An autograph document signed "Charles D. Maginnis": "My association with the Cowles Art School will be something of which I shall always be proud and my very pleasant personal relations with yourself... will, believe me, be no less highly cherished." The Cowles Art School was near the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston. Written on Magginnis' personal letterhead, the letter is in fine condition with two mailing folds
