Collation: [viii], [3]-396 pp. + 5 engraved folding plates and engraved vignette on title page. Binding in minor wear along hinges, ends of spine and corners. Intenal condition very good. All edges with brown speckling. Haller was a Swiss naturlaist . He was the first botanist to realize the importance of herbaria to study variation in plants and he therefore included material from different localities, habitats and developmental phases. Haller also grew many plants from the Alps himself. (Stafleu & Cowan, II p. 24-25) In the present study there is reprint of six pamphlets by Haller, each with halftitle (Hunt0, These pamphlets provide extensive discussion on history of description of alpine plants, methods for studing botany including anatomy and his own observations illustrated by three plates delineated by Christian Jeremias Rollin from drawings by Christian Friedrich Fritsch. (Hunt, 535; Pritzel, 3722; S&C 2308).
