Book Description
New York: World. (1956). First. First edition. Binding stained, foxing and offsetting to the endpapers, a worn, fair only copy in presentable, very good dustwrapper that is stained on the inside only. This copy Inscribed by Wright to fellow expatriate author Chester Himes: "To Chester -- with my best, Dick Wright. Dec. 8, 1956, Paris." In addition to being two of the most important African-American authors of their time, Wright and Himes were very close lifelong friends. They had already known each other for several years when in 1953 Himes followed Wright, the "dean" of African-American writers living abroad, into his self-imposed exile in Paris. Together they were a fixture of Parisian cafe society and vocally supported each other's work throughout their careers. A spectacular association. .
