Book Description
New York: Harper & Brothers. 1938. First. First edition. A small bookstore label on the bottom corner of the front fly, slight foxing to the white boards, a near fine copy in a very good, price-clipped dustwrapper with some very small nicks and short tears, and an approximately 2" tear at the bottom of the front spine fold. A Harper "Find" novel, a lumberjack takes a job in an auto factory so he can afford an outboard motor and a clam digger's shack. The hardboiled tone of the novel was modulated to comedic in the 1941 William Wellman film adaptation Racing for the Sun featuring Joel McCrea, Ellen Drew and Eddie Bracken. .
