Edinburgh John Ballantyne & Company 1810 Leather bound First edition 290pp. Quarto [27.5 cm] Original leather boards with gilt stamped borders and decorative blind stamping on the covers. Marbled edges. Volume has been rebacked with brown leather, bands and a gilt stamped title. New endsheets. Good. The spine and covers are slightly rubbed and scratched. The original leather is very subtly mottled. The underlying boards are exposed along the edges. There are a couple of small cosmetic cracks in the leather of the front board near the spine. There are multiple small losses from the edges of the leather of the original boards. There is a small loss from the leather at the foot of the spine. Missing the frontispiece portrait of Sir Walter. The text block is cracked at the dedication page. The book is still quite sturdy. The Lady of the Lake marked the height of Sir Walter Scott's popularity as a poet.
