Top edges gilt. With blue paper dust jackets. Very good. The edges of the covers are very gently bumped and rubbed. The hinges are a little weak, and the front endsheets are cracked along the hinges. The spine of volume 1 is ever so slightly rolled. The text block of volume 1 is cracked at the beginning. The jackets are in very good condition. The spines are faded. In scarce publisher's jackets. Introduction by Susan Coolidge. Jackson's classic novel of the American Indian experience. Jackson used 'Uncle Tom's Cabin' as inspiration for her own work. "If I can do one-hundredth part for the Indian that Mrs. Stowe did for the Negro, I will be thankful," she told a friend. The novel was an immediate success, and cemented her reputation. Scarce in jackets.
