[Winchester, VA: 1928]
by DANDRIDGE, Alexander Spottswood
[Winchester, VA: 1928]. Political flyer. Octavo (23cm) bifolium; 4pp, fourth page a blank. Light wear to margins, but no losses; headline underlined in red and blue (possibly as issued); a Very Good, well-preserved example. Scarce Virginia presidential campaign handbill, urging voters to defeat Governor Al Smith, the 1928 Democratic Presidential candidate. The author takes a decidedly anti-Catholic, anti-Tammany line, calling New York "an Italian city" and stating: "...the leadership of Governor Smith and Tammany is a National farce." Author also cites the recent Scopes trial, warning that "this same gang of [atheistic] actors is backing Governor Smith." Signed in print, "Alexander Spottswood Dandridge, Anti-Smith Democrat from Virginia." Rare; OCLC notes one location only (Virginia Historical Society). (Inventory #: 31163)
