First edition of this powerful "Commentary on the New Testament" by one of American Methodism's founders, Thomas Coke.

- Volume 1 covers Matthew to Acts.

- Volume 2 covers Romans to Revelation.

These two volumes containing the author's entire commentary on the New Testament were the last two of Coke's "Commentary on the Holy Bible," a series (truncated) started in 1801 with these first four volumes dealing with the Old Testament:

Volume 1, Genesis to Deuteronomy, (1801); Volume 2, Joshua to Job, (1801); Volume 3, Psalms to Isaiah, (1802); Volume 4, Jeremiah to Malachi, (1803).

Bindings rubbed along spine and edges, with sporadic abrasion to leather. Closed tears along joints. Ex-library stickers to tail of spines, bookplates on inside of each front cover, and stamps at verso of each title page. Some creasing to front free endpapers and fly leaves. Bindings in overall fair to good-, interior in good to very good condition. About the author: Thomas Coke (1747-1814) was the first Methodist bishop and is known as the Father of Methodist Missions. His numerous publications included "Extracts of the Journals of the Rev. Dr. Coke's Five Visits to America" (London, 1793); a "Life of John Wesley" (1792), prepared in collaboration with Henry Mooro; A "History of the West Indies" (3 vols., Liverpool, 1808-11).
