Nashvill: J.O. Griffith and Compan, 1861. Two volumes in one. 204; 224pp. Original half sheep and marbled boards, spine gilt lettered. Hinges cracked, spine worn, leather stripping, corners and edges worn. Toning and light foxing. Quite scarce journals of the second extra session held in April and May, 1861, in both houses of the Tennessee state legislature at which the Governor, Isham Harris, submitted an ordinance of secession and the state government began to mobilize for war against the North. The legislature was convened on April 25, in the wake of the attack on Fort Sumter and the call-up of federal troops. The journals contain a number of impassioned speeches against Northern aggression, including Harris' opening condemnation of the actions of Lincoln and the federal government, and important votes on measures toward joining the Confederacy. The journals were printed after Secession was approved and are therefore Confederate imprints. ALLEN 5370, 5284. PARRISH & WILLINGHAM 4132, 4133. (Inventory #: WRCAM53650)
