London: Printed for S. Richardson, T. Osborne, C. Hitch, et alia, 1760. Hardcover. Respectively 492, 543, 483, 445, 664p., illustrated with 8 copper-engraved maps, genealogies, and a view, all these in the terminal volume. Ex library, find a "Library of Congress duplicate" stamp impression on each titlepage. Hardbounds in matching 8x5 inch speckled calf boards with red and black labelings gilt; textblocks and folded illustrations are (pace some foxing and toning) uniformly good, textblocks quite sound and square, the eight folded items (only three of which re Africa) in good shape, most blanks present; but the leather is shot. A not-often-resorted-to set evidently left to itself, the casings very powdery, only five separate labels currently intact, the last tome now stripped of spine panel entirely and its front board detached. As is, for recasing or possibly complete divesting of all leather traces to prevent spread of mouldered dust. The first three plates deal with Africa. Folded copperplate engravings from volume 18 are: (1) map of Libya/Egypt, image is 8x12 inches, mild foxing; (2) The Tribe of Koreish, genealogical tree (traces back to Mohammed); (3) map of Mauretania, Numidia, Gaetulia &c, 8x12, mild foxing --thereafter, nothing on Africa; (4) map of Arabia, Petraea and Deserta, 8x12, slight foxing; (5) lineage, Tribes of the naturalized Arabs, being the d escendants of Ishmael, 12x13 inches; (6) lineage, Tribes of Kahtan aka Joktan, 13x14; (7) Ancient Gaul, 8x11, just a touch of foxing; (8) Plan of Ye Famed Temple of Montmorillon both Above and Under Ground with a cut of "The Eight Figures over the Gate of the Temple," just a touch of foxing.
