The covers are toned, and the extremities are a bit rubbed. A couple of the backstrips have small abraded areas, and there is evidence of former tape to the spines at the foot. Pp. 124-125 of volume 1 are a bit stained. The first photomechanical reprints of the first five volumes of the original edition of 1857.
