Ackerman Luther, 1853. Map. 16 1/2" x 20". Some browning at the folds. Includes the canals, soundings and the flow of the Cuyahoga River which famously caught fire in 1969 from pollution. Captain Howard Stansbury was a trained civil engineer who joined the US Corps of Topographical Engineers in 1838. He is known for the two-year expedition that he led to survey the Great Salt Lake and its surroundings, resulting in the report titled Exploration and survey of the valley of the Great Salt Lake of Utah, including a reconnaissance of a new route through the Rocky Mountains.
