New London: Samuel Green, 1820. 56pp. Early 20th-century tan buckram, gilt leather label. Cloth somewhat dust soiled, label slightly chipped. Institutional ink and blind stamps on titlepage, shelf label on spine. Leaves brittle, with water damage at gutter, causing detachment of several interior leaves. Moderate tanning and foxing. Good. Scarce account of the trial of a controversial religious figure in early 19th- century Connecticut, Ammi Rogers, who was stood accused of raping a teenage girl in the town of Griswold. He was convicted and sentenced to two years in the Norwich jail. His memoirs, which were published after his release from prison, vigorously protested his innocence, but there seems to be at least some evidence that he was a thorough scoundrel. The author of this account certainly concurred with such an assessment, opining in his introduction that the facts of the case demonstrated "a depravity as deep, and of iniquity as hardened, as any trial every furnished."
