Montreal: Librarie Generale Canadienne, 1942. First Edition. A very rare children's book published in Canada during World War II. The adventures of two black children living in New Orleans. The book is part of the Albums En Coleurs series. Eugene Achard [1884-1976] was is a publisher, librarian and the author of hundreds of books, many in childhood literature. From 1930 to 1935, he served as Deputy Director of the City of Montreal Library and later owned his own bookstore until his death. He is a founding member of the Society of Canadian Writers, of the Society of Canadian Youth Writers and Publishers Society, and participated in the Association of Canadian Publishers. Only two copies of this title are held by libraries in Canada and none in the United States, according to the OCLC World Cat. 8vo., pictorial wraps; 24 pages. With Ten Full-Page Color Block-Plates. Very Good (very minor wear & browning covers; contents clean & tight). A very nice copy!
