1 page hand written internal document of Simeon Baldwin's Purchase of 200 shares of the stock of the New York and Harlem Railroad [they do not treat it as a compound word; hence, rail road] The New York Legislature approved the Corporation in April of 1831. This document is a month later (May 30, 1831) addressed to a "Dear Sir" [note clearly identified but addressed to: Joseph Wallis, New York, May 30, 1831] and signed by Simeon Baldwin, Esq. on the verso. Remains of the seal present. It addresses Gentlemen in the second part (presumably the Commissioners of the New York & Harlem Rail Road Company] and asks that the letter be addressed to Silas E. Buitoavs [one of the 13 Commissioners]. A very early document of the first railroad in New York. (Inventory #: 025489)
