1895
1895. Printed on paper as check to A.C.M.I. [Arizona Co-Operative Mercantile Institution] from R.C. Kinder in the amount of $4.55 to Joe L-? in Black Canyon, Arizona Territory. While perfectly legal, checks in Arizona Territory in the 1880's and 1890's were usually on printed bank stock. Joseph Fish had been instrumental in establishing the bank for Mormon families but it had been a difficult process. The tiny Mormon community in the Black Canon [Canyon] era had struggled and the stage line was still having troubles that had just been established between the Black Canon station and Phoenix.
