Unusual map showing Atlantic routes of steam ships from Europe to North America, as well as various railroads routes in North America. Produced in conjunction with Canada's participation in one of the great international exhibitions of the 19th century, the Paris Exposition Universelle in 1855. The map promotes Canadian routes and the transformation of Canada from colony to nation. Elevation profile map at at bottom shows "Johnson's Profile of the Northern Route for the Pacific Railroad from Lake Michigan to Vancouver Island, shewing relative Summits on other Routes." Thomas Coltrin Keefer (1821-1915) was Canadian publisher based in Montreal. Hard to find. (Inventory #: 280355)
