He graduated from Harvard and then spent two years in Europe at the side of the continent's leading orthopedic surgeons. Kelly & Burrage cite his skill in achieving results not often seen in alleviating club-foot. This is also among the earliest medical books issued in America with photographic illustrations. There is a presentation from Brown on the front free endpaper. Le Vay, History, p. 380; Kelly & Burrage, p. 153; Burns #1223.
