A young woman's photo album from 1916 through to 1919 in Georgia and Texas. The woman was married to Lieutenant Bledsoe, seen on the first page with, "The future captain," and "My sweetheart in olden days, by my husband now, 1919" captioned below. The photo album is comprised of family and friend photographs from Georgia and Washington D.C. as well as photographs from her husband when he was stationed in Texas. Some of the locations seen in photographs are Piedmont Park, New Hope, Rome, Atlanta, and various places around the Texas and Mexico border. The woman is often pictured with her sisters or a large group of friends. One of the photos is of the girls posing in different fashionable dresses from the time while another shows her holding her husband close with, "Sweethearts," captioned below. There are many humorous photographs of the woman and her friends, one shows two women holding a "for sale" sign with, "Friends in Atlanta for Sale," captioned below while another shows several men clumped together hanging in trees and smiling. Some of the photographs are older pictures of the woman as a child with her older brother. One shows her brother and mother sitting together while he mother is using an old telephone from the turn of the century. A couple animals can been seen in the album as the woman's family owned one dog and several cats. There are pictures of horses and of an elephant statue as well. There four real photograph postcards to the woman from her husband while he was stationed down in Texas in 1916. He was a lieutenant in the 5th regiment during the Border War between Mexico and the United States. In all his photographs, he looks sternly into the camera unless with a group of his fellow soldiers, then he is smiling. When Bledsoe returned to Georgia, the woman and him are seen in almost every picture together, often holding each other or closely posed.
A charming couple's photo album featuring pictures of the husband stationed in Texas during the Border War and returning home to his loving wife a year later, 1916 through to 1919. (Inventory #: 423649)
