A 12mo of 7 3/8 by 5 3/4 inches with sections of the marbled paper worn through at the edges of the boards and particularly at the tips of the boards. Without a dust jacket. 81 pages of text. Illustrated with a frontispiece portrait of the author and a map of the eastern portion of the United States which traces the routes taken by the author. Edited by and with an introduction by Dwight L. Smith. This title is the first publication of Virtulon Rich's journal which included his journey by horseback from upstate Vermont to Albany, New York City, Washington, DC, Maryland, Western Pennsylvania, Ohio, Indiana and the eastern edge of Illinois from where he returned in 1832.
