The Swimmer
- SIGNED Hardcover
- Llandogo, Monmouthshire: The Old Stile Press, 2012
Llandogo, Monmouthshire: The Old Stile Press, 2012. Limited Edition. Hardcover. Fine. Pusch, Steffi. Number 5 of 100, folio size, [40] pp., signed by S.J. Butler and Steffi Pusch. "The Swimmer" first appeared in "The Warwick Review" and was then selected for "The Best British Short Stories 2011" published by Salt; this is its first publication together with Steffi Pusch’s photographs. The story follows the girl who deals with fear, symbolized by her relationship with a swan she comes across in the river while swimming; the language is poetic and resonates at a deep level, as each of us has had to deal with similar feelings at some point in our lives.
Steffi Pusch read the story and was inspired to take a sequence of photos to accompany it; the result is a wonderful work with the image and text flowing together like the symbolic waves and ripples of the river, both physical and emotional.
