Original handbill for ‘William Burroughs: A Reading’, Thursday, February 24, 1983, in San Francisco at Barbary Coast, Student Union, San Francisco State University, co-sponsored by Poetry Center and Associated Students Performing Arts. 8 1/2” x 11” on light gray paper with black & red lettering and a large photograph of Burroughs wearing a black turtleneck and glasses, smoking a cigarette. Fine. The text reads: “William Burroughs / A Reading” then gives the date, location, ticket prices and phone number. At the time of this event, Burroughs was on a promotional tour for his novel ‘The Place of Dead Roads’, the second volume in his trilogy that begins with ‘Cities of the Red Night’ (1981) and concludes with ‘The Western Lands’ (1987) - chronicling the story of a gay gunfighter in the American West.
