Half gilt-stamped black morocco over gray cloth, a.e.g., spine tail stamped N. Van Vranken in gilt; extremities worn. Bookplate of Sondley Reference Library, blind embossed stamp on titles and elsewhere, few rubber ink stamped numbers. Very good. These five volumes made Scottish writer, John Mackay Wilson, famous. Each volume is packed with numerous tales that are still being published and read today. "Old tales I heard of woe or mirth, Of lover's slights, of ladies' charms, Of witches, spells, of warrior's arms, Of patriot battle won of old, by Wallace bright and Bruce the Bold." –Sir Walter Scott [on title]. The introduction contains a five page author biography. Possibly a mixed set, but uniformly bound for N. Van Vranken.
